- Conformity Assessment
- Any activity concerned with determining directly or indirectly that relevant requirements are fulfilled. Typical examples of conformity assessment activities are sampling, testing and inspection; evaluation, verification and assurance of conformity (declaration, certification of the supplier); registration and approval as well as their combinations.

- Consortia and fora cover non formal SDOs and specification providers. They are used in places were it is not so relevant to distinguish between these two classes.

- A European Standard or European Norm (EN) is a standard adopted by CEN / CENELEC and carrying with it an obligation of implementation as an identical national standard and withdrawal of conflicting national standards.
